Many people consider or already have a pool table in their home. But the pool table is not that only thing that
needs to be addressed. Pool table balls maintenance, cleaning, and purchasing all need special attention. There
isn’t a lot of mention on websites about the importance of buying quality cues, balls, or chalk. Let me walk you
through some of the things you need to know and do about cleaning pool table balls.
If you have ever been to a professional billiard hall you will notice that all of the balls are shiny and look
new. This is because they have been waxed. Having waxed pool table balls is important because it will lead to
better performance when playing. It allows a chalked pool cue to grip the ball when you hit it as well as glide
across the table properly in a smooth fluid motion. However you can’t just use any wax. You must buy pool ball wax
from a billiard shop which should run you about $15. If your balls have any scratches or cracks, the wax will help
prevent your table cloth from being cut but it is best to replace the balls as soon as possible.

When cleaning your pool table balls you should use a dry micro fiber cloth. If the balls don’t seem to be
getting clean, then you may need to use a mild soap with some warm water. After the balls have been washed, you
will need to use a special cleanser on them to prevent them from drying out and cracking. Once they have dried,
apply the wax, and you are ready to play some pool.
You will need to check with your pool balls manufacturing information but some resin based balls are able to be
put in the dishwasher to be cleaned. However, you still need to put them through a gentle cycle and use a soap that
isn’t too harsh. After all is said and done you will probably need to buff them up with some wax as well.
That is all you really need to understand about keeping your pool table balls in good condition. Just remember
that if a ball is cracked, or broken, don’t use it because you will end up having to replace the pool table felt a
lot sooner than you regularly would. Keeping the small things in check will save you money over the long run.
